Top Ten Songs

In this post, I will tell you the top 10 songs that people are listening to today and I will explain the kind of behavior this kind of music influences.

According to Top Ten Songs, the top ten songs listened to this week are:

  1. Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen
  2. Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye featuring Kimbra
  3. We Are Young by Fun.
  4. Pay Phone by Maroon 5 featuring Wiz Khalifa
  5. Boyfriend by Justin Beiber
  6. Wild Ones by Flo Rida
  7. Where Have you Been by Rhianna
  8. Starships by Nicki Minaj
  9. Dance Again by Jennifer Lopez featuring Pit Bull
  10. Back In Time by Pit Bull

What do all of these songs have in common? How about we take a look into each of these songs and see.
  • Call Me Maybe, some of Jepsen’s lyrics are “Your stare was holdin, ripped jeans skin was showin, hot night, wind was blowin, where you think your going, baby?”
  • Somebody That I Used To Know, some of the lyrics are “Now and then I think of when we were together, like when you said you felt so happy you could die, I told myself that you were right for me, but felt so lonely in your company, but that was love and it's an ache I still remember”
  • We Are Young, some of the lyrics are “Give me a second II need to get my story straight My friends are in the bathroom getting higher than the empire state my lover she is waiting for me just across the barMy seat's been taken by some sunglasses asking 'bout a scar and I know I gave it to you months ago I know you're trying to forget but between the drinks and subtle things the holes in my apologies you know I'm trying hard to take it back so if by the time the bar closes and you feel like falling down I'll carry you home”
  • Pay Phone, lyrics are “If happy ever after did exist I would still be holding you like this And all these fairy tales are full of it”
  • Boyfriend, lyrics are “If I was your boyfriend, never let you go Keep you on my arm girl, you'd never be alone I can be a gentleman, anything you want If I was your boyfriend, I'd never let you go.”
  • Wild ones, the lyrics are “No doubt by the end of the night Got the clothes coming off Then I make that move Somehow, someway, gotta raise the roof, roof All black shades when the sun come through”
  • Where Have You Been, lyrics are “I've been everywhere, man Looking for someone Someone who can please me Love me all night long I've been everywhere, man Looking for you babe”
  • Starships lyrics are “So give me more, more, 'till I can't stand Get on the floor, floor Like it's your last chance If you want more, more”
  • Dance Again lyrics are “I'm a ol' dirty dog all day No way JoséYour girl only go one way, ay mi madre! You should check that out Maybe you ain't turn her out Maybe it's none of my business But for now work it out Let's get this”
  • Back In Time lyrics are “Let's excuse me baby Go, Yeah you baby Back, Ooh you groovy baby In, let's make a movie baby Time, excuse me baby Let's, yeah you baby Go, Ooh you groovy baby Back in, let's make a movie baby, Time It's Mr Worldwide, Agent A, Reporting live From Cape Canaveral, MK, Big Syphe Let's ride”

After looking at all of these lyrics, now you can see what all the songs have in common. They all make references to sex and drinking. We primarily think that a song is good based on the singer but if we look at the lyrics we will be shocked.

These songs that are the most listened to songs prove that the songs we listen to do affect our behaviors and moods.

We need to make sure that we look at the lyrics and determine if the songs are good or bad influences.

Interview

I interviewed my dad for this blog to see what I can learn on what he thinks about music.

What kind of music do you listen to?
Personally, I like listening to rock music.

Do you think music influences who you are?
I do think music influences who I am because I listen to music that describes me and  my lifestyle.

Do you believe that music affects a person’s behavior?
I don’t think music can affect someone’s behavior because they make their own decisions with or without the music.

Do you check to see what your kids are listening to?
I don’t usually check to see what my kids are listening to because I feel that they know what is right and wrong.

In this quick interview, you see that he has the mind like majority of the people. They all seem to think that teenagers know right from wrong and music doesn’t affect them or their behavior. It amazes me that parents don’t take the time to see what their kids is in to. It shows that parents are putting too much trust in their kids and they don’t get to see who their children really are.

Parents: take the time to see what is influencing your kids to be who they are.
Kids: don’t get mad just because your parents care.

Compare and Contrast

As in my previous blog posts, I have talked about how music affects a person’s mood and behaviors. In this blog however, I will compare types of music. I will compare country music vs. pop music and heavy metal music vs. classical music.

Country vs. Pop
Many of the country songs today, are mostly about alcohol, beaches, and girls. Whereas Pop songs are mostly about sex, drugs, alcohol, and women.  Songs themselves make it seem as they are innocent but as we look at the lyrics then we see what we are exposing ourselves to.

As we notice, some pop singers have gone country who now sing both pop and country. Singers such as Kelly Clarkson and Taylor Swift are some examples of singers that both do pop and country. Now knowing this, which is better to listen to...country or pop? If we listen to country, what songs would we listen to? If we listened to pop, what songs would we listen to? Are either one of those good for us to listen to or should we expand our music variety?

Heavy Metal vs. Classical
We would think that heavy metal music and classical music are complete opposites right? Little did I know, that they are actually similar. According to Mail Online, they are quite similar because “they share virtually identical personality traits.” I could not believe this when I read it but as I kept reading, I found that heavy metal music listeners and classical music listeners are “creative, high self esteem, introverted, and at ease with themselves.”

Shocking huh? I was amazed at what I had learned.

Describes personality.

My Personal Input On Music

My Personal Thoughts

As a blogger, I truly do believe that music does affect my mood. I am one of those kinds of people that thinks if they don’t have music they will die.

If I am in a good mood I will listen to songs that have a good, upbeat, happy feeling such as We Are Young by Fun or I’ll listen to Adele’s songs. If I am in a sad mood I will listen to What Hurts the Most by Rascal Flatts and Because of You by Reba McEntire.

I did not think that I was affected by the music until I began doing my research. Little did I know that I was listening to certain musics based on my mood at that specific moment. As I searched deeper I found shocking results that I have discussed in my previous posts.

I have found that some people believe that the shooters of the Columbine High School shooting was influenced by the music that they listened too. This surprised me because as a listener to all types of music, I didn’t think that music can be the cause of why people act the way they do.

If you were to go through my iPod, you will find that I have many genres of music. I have an alternative music, contemporary country, hip hop/rap, pop, R&B soul, and many more. I make playlists on my iPod and name them based on what kind of music is in that playlist without even realizing that I have certain songs for certain moods.

How To Find Positive Influence Music

As in my previous posts, I have discussed the influences that music has on people. I will tell you how to find music that is not depicting the way people act.

Many psychologists have found that music can help better your health. According to eMed Expert, it is musical tempo that helps people’s health rather than the type of music it is. They have found that classical music, celtic music, and even raga music all can be good for your heart and health.

Here are some ways to find music that is a positive influence.

  • You can even look up a songs lyrics to see what the song is really saying. Lyrics are often not paid attention to when someone is listening to a song because they like the beat more than anything. The lyrics of the songs is really what is corrupting the lives and having negative influences.
  • Another way is to limit the amount of music you listen too. If you are constantly surrounding yourself to music and you have no way of controlling the time spent, it can also affect your behavior.
  • Look for songs that are happy and uplifting...not down and depressing. If you listen to a happy or uplifting song you will be in a better mood than if you listen to a sad and depressing song.

Please take some of the helpful ideas and put them to use and make the behavior of people better.
